Not everyone working on gas fitting in the UK is properly trained and it has become such a major problem that Corgi themselves are telling the world how to spot rogue traders.
In April 2009 as Safe took over from Corgi for England, Scotland and Wales. Although Corgi is now only responsible for training and registering gas fitters in Northern Ireland what they have to say about cowboy gas fitters is very relevant to us all.
The first group Corgi identifies is the "Full illegal." This the group of people, usually plumbers who have absolutely no treaining or qualification and it is thios group that we see most often on those television programs that identify rogue traders.
The next group are "Lapsed" These are gas fitters who were acredited and correctly registered and trained but have lapsed in their registration. Corgi warn us that there is a stropng liklihood that such fitters will have gaps in their knowledge with regard to the latest legislation and regu7lations and may impact on their ability to work safely with gas.
Finally we have "Part timers" These are people who are registeres with Corgi of Gas Safe as required but carry out private jobs for people like friends and family. The problem here is that the jobs cannot be noified and as a consequence there is no insurance support for the user.
Gas fitters. Don't take chances, use registered engineers in London.
