From April 1st 2009 Corgi are no longer in charge of registering gas installers.
From that date Capita plc become responsible for all matters relating to gas fitting and installers and Corgi will lose the responsibilty of registering gas installers and engineerss. Fromm April 1st. 2009 It will no longer be enough for an installer to simply have been registered with Corgi.
Whether it is a new installation or something as simple as a gas safety certificate or a Landlords gas safety certificate the installer must be registered with 'Gas Safe'
The HSE in the UK decided in December 2008 to award the contract for overseeing gas safety in London and the rest of the UK to 'Gas Safe' and installers and gas engineers had three months to gear up for these changes.

One of the problems the industry has suffered with in the past is installers claiming to be Corgi registered when in fact that was not the case. It is expected that 'Gas Safe' will be more thorough in persuing such installers whether they be in London or elsewhere.
